Jeanne vs. Jodi: Which Dear John Denim Jean Is Right for You?

By Dear John Denim Style Team

Flare or straight? High-rise or mid-rise? We break down the difference between two of our bestselling fits to help you find your perfect pair.

Jeanne and Jodi are both core Dear John Denim silhouettes, but they are built for different priorities: Jeanne is the high-rise skinny that hugs the leg; Jodi is the straighter everyday jean with more room through the thigh. Here is how to choose without guessing.

The Jeanne in one sentence

Jeanne is our go-to high-rise skinny — narrow from hip through hem, clean at the waist, and easy to tuck into boots or wear under longline cardigans without bulk. If you want the leg to read as one continuous slim line, Jeanne is the default. Browse Jeanne.

The Jodi in one sentence

Jodi carries a straight silhouette: more room through the thigh than a true skinny, a leg opening that does not taper as aggressively, and a classic “real jean” look that works with sneakers, loafers, and half-tucked shirts. Browse Jodi.

Compare rise, leg, fabric, and inseam

Rise: Both families skew modern and higher on the waist relative to vintage low-rise denim, but exact front and back rise vary by wash — always read the measurements on the PDP for the color you are buying.

Leg line: Jeanne narrows from knee to ankle; Jodi keeps a straighter column. If calves are athletic or you dislike fabric clinging at the knee, Jodi often feels more comfortable in the same tagged size.

Fabric: Stretch levels are wash-specific. A rigid or vintage-inspired Jeanne will feel firmer at try-on than a super-stretch wash; same for Jodi. Use the fabric bullet on the product page, not the product photo alone, to guess hand-feel.

Inseam: Match listed inseam to your body measurement from crotch to desired hem. If you are between inseams, remember: hemming skinny legs slightly changes the knee placement visually — when possible, buy the inseam option closest to your truth.

Quick decision flow

  • Want maximum leg definition and a narrow opening → Jeanne.
  • Want an easier thigh and a classic straight look → Jodi.
  • Waist fits on Jeanne but seat feels tight → try Jodi in the same size, or Jeanne one size up if you love the skinny line.
  • Prefer tucked-in shirting every day → Jeanne’s slimmer calf keeps fabric from bunching; Jodi leaves more air for relaxed woven shirts.
